Oxford continue fine run

James Constable struck twice as Oxford stretched their unbeaten league run to six games with a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

The talismanic striker grabbed his first goal in seven games with a superb effort in the 16th minute and wrapped up a comprehensive U's win with another six minutes from time.

Bristol Rovers, who had Scott Rendell making his debut after his loan move from Wycombe, began the brighter of the teams and it needed two good saves from U's goalkeeper Ryan Clarke to stop them going in front.

Clarke saved with his foot when Rendell fired in a shot on the turn and moments later the keeper got down smartly to keep out Joe Anyinsah's 20-yard shot.

Constable then gave Oxford the lead with a terrific goal. Simon Heslop drove forward 30 yards and after slipping a pass to his left, Constable ran onto it and drilled a low left-footed shot past Scott Bevan.

Peter Leven made it 2-0 from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second-half after Byron Anthony brought down Robert Hall. Anthony was possibly fortunate to escape with just a yellow card.

With Andy Haworth, Michael Duberry and Leven all going close again, it seemed only a matter of time before a third goal arrived.

Once again Heslop was the supplier and Constable sneaked a clever low shot between Bevan and his near post for his fifth goal of the campaign.
