Williams targets starts at Yeovil

Andy Williams is hoping for more first-team football after agreeing to join Yeovil Town from Bristol Rovers. The 24-year-old winger is set to join the Glovers on 1 July after rejecting a one-year deal with Rovers in favour of a two-year contract at Huish Park.

Williams made 26 of his 45 appearances for Rovers this season from the bench.

And he told BBC Radio Bristol: "I need to play football week-in, week-out and I feel that Yeovil is a place where I can do that."

He added: "It would have been easy for me to stay at Rovers. The fans were very good to me there and I got on well with all the playing and managerial staff.

"But, to further my football career, I just think I need a fresh start."

Williams said the temptation of a two-year deal offered by Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton influenced his decision to quit Rovers but was not the only factor.

"Stability is very important but I'm also hopefully going to be higher up the pecking order at Yeovil," he said.

"I left on very good terms with Trolls [Rovers manager Paul Trollope]. We had a few good chats and I have a lot of time and respect for him.

"I think if he can get the backing he needs from everyone at the club, they can push on and get where they want to be."
