He told Press Association Sport: "Early in the season the fixture list was kind to us, but then we played Norwich and Leeds and we weren't at the same level as them.
"We feel we are where we should be now, a top 10 team. We're on the tails of the play-offs but we said we wanted to finish in the top 10 and I think we can do that."
The gaffer was also pleased to see Jo Kuffour back in the goals.
"He'd been on a barren run, but he's been working hard in training and in games and I'm delighted for him that he scored.
"We've tweaked his role a bit, but his sharpness and movement is crucial for us.
"He's got six goals already, so we're pleased that he's on his way to reaching the sort of target he'll be looking for."
