Pirates target new striker

Bristol Rovers chairman Nick Higgs has confirmed the club are in the market for a new striker and insists any acquisition will not depend on the departure of Darryl Duffy. It has been reported that Rovers will not be able to add to their squad unless they can offload Duffy, who is out of favour at the Memorial Stadium. However, Higgs told the club's official website: "We remain committed to bringing a big striker to the club as soon as possible - regardless of whether other players leave or not." The Rovers chairman continued: "I am aware that there has been a lot of speculation recently about the acquisition of a target man. I can assure you that we have been pursuing a number of options and continue to look for the right player. "Unfortunately, (manager) Paul (Trollope) has yet to find anyone who he feels fits the bill." Duffy, meanwhile, told the Bristol Evening Post: "I've been told that I can leave if a club comes in for me. I'm desperate to leave before the transfer window shuts if possible. It's time to move on now because I'm not going to get much game time if I stay here."
