He is currently on a months loan at The Memorial Ground and is out of contract at Doncaster at the end of the season
The news has alerted a number of clubs to Heffernan's possible availability and the 28-year-old's agent admits the striker is keeping his options open.
"Sean O'Driscoll has been brilliant in allowing Paul to go out on loan as he understands his need to play first-team football even though he is coming to the end of his contract," Hart told Sky Sports' website.
"Of course if Doncaster want to sit down and discuss a new deal we would be delighted to speak to them.
"As Paul is a free agent in the summer he is also willing to see what other options are out there for him.
"He is enjoying his loan spell at Bristol Rovers and his display against Charlton reminded people of his talent."
