"Everyone played well and it was a good effort, and such an improvement on the week before". “Considering the number of new players in the team, everyone gelled very quickly, and although York came at us a bit in the first ten minutes or so, I thought after that it was pretty much plain sailing. The new lads settled in, and credit to them for the way they did that, and once we got the two goals it knocked the stuffing out of them and killed the game.
“They probably had us watched at Boston and at Yeovil and thought we would be easy pickings, but I felt there was only one team in it and all the lads deserve credit for that.”
"This club has massively underachieved in the time I’ve been here, and we all hope that this time things are changing for good, and we can actually go on and do something." remarked Kevin Austin.
The loyal gasheads that watched the dissection of York on Saturday will have watched the first convincing win at home since 2002 and will possibly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and then with any luck says Kevin, the squad can build and prepare for next season. “I hope so,” he said, “But there have been a few false dawns since I’ve been here so we can’t get carried away. This club has massively underachieved in the time I’ve been here, and we all hope that this time things are changing for good, and we can actually go on and do something."
“But Saturday was just one game and we have to reproduce that now. If we go to Cheltenham on Saturday and lose it’s back to square one, but if we go there and win we go above them, and maybe another win after that and we’ll be safe."
“Ever since I have been here the supporters have been different class, especially considering where we are in the league. Even last season they were tremendous, so it’s about time they had something to shout about and look forward to."
“It’s too late to reward them this season, but hopefully we can secure our status this season and then make sure next season we finally deliver.”
