Rovers' inevitable relegation was confirmed with a 2-1 defeat at Colchester, who struck two quick goals through Liam Henderson before Pirates substitute Elliot Richards scored his first goal for the club.
Campbell said: "It's crucial that they get the manager's position sorted out as quickly as possible. I don't know what the future holds for next season.
"I've not heard anything, but the longer it goes on, the less likely it will be. I respect that and if it isn't me, I wish whoever gets it the all the very best.
"If it isn't me I don't want to be part of the coaching staff; I want to go back to being a player."
Campbell revealed he was pride of his players' efforts since he took control.
He added: "They played for their pride and they played for the club. We spoke about pride before the game and we'd done great in the 11 games since we took over."
