The Addicks needed a goal from Paul Benson to secure a point after Wayne Brown lashed the visitors into the lead.
"We would have taken a point before the game," said Trollope. "We knew it was going to be a tough test for us and we came in carrying a few suspensions and injuries so we had a few young boys in the team and players playing out of position.
"When you're a goal up away from home there always tends to be a tinge of disappointment when you don't win the game, but it was a magnificent effort by the players.
"We were disciplined when we needed to be and put our bodies on the line under intense pressure in the second half, and also had some quality play to create a couple of chances ourselves.
"Wayne Brown produced a bit of quality for the goal, as did Ben Swallow to square the ball. It was good vision and a cracking finish. We've responded well from a home defeat against Leyton Orient in a magnificent way."
